CMOS image sensors
Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductors (CMOS) image sensors will play a growing role in scientific, space and defence applications over the coming years. Some advantages include:
- Greater radiation tolerance (particularly for proton radiation)
- No frame shift smear (useful for applications such as hyperspectral imaging)
- Low power consumption
e2v has a long-established capability in CMOS image sensor design including both in-house designers and partnerships with European design houses. This expertise, along with our expertise in packaging and testing image sensors has enabled the successful completion of our first CMOS image sensor space programme.
e2v is now in the process of producing a number of semi-standard CMOS image sensors for a range of applications. Included are low noise devices for science applications and a hyper-spectral imager for space.
